Robotics for Teachers & Parents – 3-Month Online Course

This 3-month online robotics course is designed to equip teachers and parents with the knowledge, confidence and practical skills needed to introduce children to robotics, coding, electronics and 3D design.

The course is delivered fully online, making it flexible and accessible regardless of your location or previous experience. Learners work through structured online lessons, practical projects and activities while receiving additional support through weekly live online sessions.

Course Structure

The course is divided into three progressive modules, with each month focusing on a different area of robotics and STEM education.

Month 1: Scratch Programming & Electricity Basics

Start with the fundamentals of programming and electronics.

You will learn:

  • Introduction to robotics and STEM education
  • Fundamentals of computational thinking
  • Block-based programming using Scratch
  • Programming concepts such as sequences, loops, conditions and variables
  • Introduction to electricity and electronic components
  • Understanding basic circuits
  • Practical beginner projects

Month 2: Electronics, Arduino & Tinkercad

Move from block-based programming into physical electronics and Arduino.

You will learn:

  • Introduction to Arduino
  • Digital inputs and outputs
  • LEDs, buttons, resistors and other basic components
  • Sensors and actuators
  • Basic Arduino programming
  • Building simple electronic circuits
  • Using Tinkercad Circuits to design and simulate projects
  • Building and programming practical Arduino projects

Month 3: 3D Modelling & 3D Printing

Learn how 3D design can be incorporated into robotics and STEM projects.

You will learn:

  • Introduction to 3D modelling
  • Creating basic 3D shapes and designs
  • Designing parts for robotics projects
  • Preparing models for 3D printing
  • Introduction to Creality Print
  • Understanding basic 3D printing concepts
  • Designing and completing a final practical project

How the Online Course Works

The course is designed to provide a balance between self-paced online learning and instructor support.

Each week includes:

  • Online learning content
  • A practical project or activity
  • Exercises to reinforce the concepts
  • A short quiz or assessment
  • A weekly live online session where you can ask questions, receive guidance and get help with projects

The weekly live sessions give learners an opportunity to interact directly with the instructor and other participants, helping you stay on track and overcome challenges.

Optional In-Person Workshops

Although the course is fully online, learners who want additional practical experience can attend our optional in-person robotics workshops.

These workshops are charged separately and provide an opportunity to:

  • Work directly with robotics hardware
  • Build and test physical projects
  • Get hands-on assistance from an instructor
  • Practise the concepts learned online
  • Gain confidence working with Arduino and electronics

You can therefore complete the entire course online or combine the online course with in-person workshops for a more hands-on learning experience.

The course makes use of beginner-friendly tools and platforms, including:

  • Scratch – Block-based programming
  • Tinkercad – Electronics simulation and 3D design
  • Arduino – Electronics and robotics programming
  • Creality Print – Preparing 3D models for printing

What You Need

To participate in the online course, you will need:

  • A laptop or desktop computer
  • A reliable internet connection
  • Access to the required software and online platforms
  • Robotics kit – optional and purchased separately

The robotics kit is recommended for learners who want to complete the practical electronics and Arduino projects using real hardware. However, learners can also follow the online lessons and simulations without purchasing the kit.
